Automation Consultation
No commitments, no hassles...just an honest assement of how automation can help you get the most out of your core cutting operations. Complete the form on this page or call 1-800-531-2002 for your Automation Consultation.
Major Components of Automated Core Cutting
The Core Cutter – Automated core cutting is available with our A301 & A400 Series core cutters, programmable P510 & P610 core cutters and our MDHS Core Cutter. Automation can also be added to existing A300 Series, A400 Series or older Model D Appleton core cutters.
Parent Core Handling –Parent cores are stored on tables or in hoppers and then an elevator system feeds the cores to the Appleton Autoloader. Conveyor systems can be designed to assist in moving the cores from multiple sources during this process.
Appleton Autoloader –The Autoloader receives the parent core from the elevator and loads it onto the core cutter. Autoloaders can be purchased as part of a new core cutting system or added to many existing Appleton core cutters by changing the existing control panel to the new control package.
Cut Core Handling – Trim and butt waste can be automatically separated from the cut cores. The AutoLoader can discharge the cut cores as they are cut, or accumulate them for a single transfer to an accumulator table or conveyer. Appleton Mfg. Division can provide cut core handling systems with both side and end discharge to load bins and shafts.
Automation Consulation – An examination of your core cutting goals, current processes and machinery along with budgetary requirements to determine which automated core cutter solution is right for you. As customer requirements may vary, Appleton will design a solution that fits your needs. Core Cutters
*To acheive the highest level of performance in automated core cutting systems, we recommend the:

P510 Programmable Core Cutter
The P510 core cutter is a programmable core cutter that uses an Allen Bradley 1100 PLC with Panel View Plus 600 or can be upgraded to an Allen-Bradley SLC500 PLC control package.
Automation is also available with the following Appleton Core Cutters

A301 Automatic Core Cutter
The A301 core cutter offers basic automation. It is manually or automatically loaded, with electric powered core feed and an air powered fixed knife.

A400 Automatic Core Cutter
The A400 core cutter is hydraulically powered for faster cutting of tougher material. The A400 can be used to cut fibre, plastic or tape.

P610 Automatic Core Cutter
The P610 core cutter is designed for users with a large variety of diameters, very large diameters, or very long cores. It can handle 3" ID to 24" ID cores and is available in lengths to 30 foot.

MDHS Core Cutter
The MDHS core cutter is a Multi-Diameter High Speed core cutter for quick I.D. change overs. It features a chucked core for cut length accuracy and two opposed knives providing rapid cutting even when a free wheeling blade is used.
Automation can also be added to pre-existing Appelton core cutter installations. For more information on which machines can be upgraded call 1-800-531-2002
Parent Core
Solutions range from simple storage hoppers and tables to moving parent cores from remote locations, then delivering them to the AutoLoader via metering gates or elevator.
Custom solutions can be designed to suit just about any situation or environment. Appleton Mfg. Division has an experienced staff of Engineers and Mechanical Designers who solve even the most complex automated core cutting and handling challenges.

Cut Core
There are a variety of options for handling the cut cores. Trim and butt waste can be separated and cut cores can be staged on an accumulator table or moved to the next operation via conveyor systems.

AutoLoading
AutoLoaders play a key role in the overall automated core cutting system, especially when upgrading an existing core cutter to automation. The addition of an Appleton Autloader, a parent core feed table or hopper and an accumulator table, turn a stand alone core cutter into an automated core cutting system.
The Appleton AutoLoader can be paired with all new Appleton Core Cutters (except the S210) and is backwards compatible with most older model Appleton Core Cutters. Contact your Appleton Consultant for more details.
